Welcome to day 4354 of "The Project", dedicated to
In the following pages you'll see the process that I've gone through to bring this car back to what it was 25 years ago. It's a work in progress so there'll be periodic updates as work gets completed.
My DeLorean was purchased on May 25th, 2005 from James K. of South Burlington, Vermont. James was the original owner of the vehicle since it was purchased new in 1981 from The Automaster of Shelburne, Vermont. It has been kept no more than five miles from the original dealership its whole life and continues to since my acquisition in May. The car now stays back in Shelburne, Vermont where I live and continues to be one of few DeLorean's in the state of Vermont, at least that I'm aware of. 1561 is a May-1981 build, black interior complete with the 5 speed transmission and early and desirable hood design.
From day one I knew I was getting a project, and with 11 years and 339 days into my ownership it has been exactly that. It took about 3 weeks to get the car to the point where it could be reliably driven, but no long distances. As an attempt to flush out all of the problems that have been building up with this car over the past twenty five years I started to drive it on a daily basis and undertake some of the mechanical issues that remained. For a complete breakdown of this, see the repairs section.
